Principal Clinical Psychologist

B Psych (Hons), M Psych (Clin), MAPS

I grew up in the small country town of Waikerie in the Riverland, South Australia. In my high school years it became evident to me that there was an absence of mental health services for adolescents in our small town. This kick-started my dream of becoming a psychologist. After Grade 12 I moved to Adelaide and completed my undergraduate psychology and honours degree at the University of South Australia, before completing my Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Adelaide. After six years of study straight from high school it was time for an adventure so I headed to the UK for two years. It was here that I met my husband, who happened to be from Cairns.

Upon arriving in Cairns, I immediately fell in love with the mountains, the rainforest and the reef, but I must admit that it took me a couple of years to feel at home here as I missed my family and friends. I was fortunate to find work in a local private practice as a psychologist and it was there that I completed my final training in order to become a Clinical Psychologist. Over the last 10 years I have worked with many individuals with various mental health diagnoses; however, it is my work with children, adolescents and their families that I am most passionate about.

As your Clinical Psychologist, I aim to be warm, approachable, genuine and supportive. With the use of evidence-based techniques I will challenge you so that you can achieve your treatment goals. As your child’s Clinical Psychologist, I will also do whatever I can to include you as the parent in our sessions. As a parent myself I understand only too well how important it is for you to be informed as to the strategies that your child is learning.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my husband and young son, as well as friends and extended family. We are very active within the cycling community and we enjoy working on our home and also exploring everything that Cairns has to offer. In my free time I enjoy watching a movie with my husband in the air-conditioning, hanging out in our pool and catching up with friends.
