PsychSc (Hons), MPsych (Clinical), MAPS
I have recently relocated to Cairns from the Sunshine Coast after my husband’s work brought us here. We have enjoyed holidaying in Cairns at least once a year for the last decade and so we are thrilled to finally be calling it home.
My journey to becoming a psychologist began in my early 20’s. I always knew that I wanted to enter into a people helping profession; however, I was unsure which one. I started off studying physiotherapy at university where as part of my course I had to take some psychology subjects. I quickly realised that I was far more enthusiastic and excited about attending my psychology courses than any other course. Shortly after, I decided to change my degree and began studying a Bachelor of Psychological Science (with Honours) at the University of Queensland. Following this, I spent a number of years working as a researcher for psychological projects with the Cancer Council Queensland, UQ/Blue Care Research Centre and for various other not for profit organisations. After three years of research, I returned to university to complete my Master of Clinical Psychology at the Australian Catholic University.
I am deeply passionate about equipping and empowering people to move through life’s difficulties and to live their best life. Having close family members with serious mental health difficulties and experiencing its impact first hand, I have compassion and understanding for those living with mental health concerns and their loved ones. I believe in the power of a good client-therapist relationship and evidence based psychological interventions to bring about positive change in a person’s life. Over my years in private practice it has been so rewarding to see so many of my clients meet their treatment goals and go on to live rich, full, meaningful lives. Because of this, there is no other profession I would rather wake up and do each day.
As a Clinical Psychologist I aim to bring quality therapy sessions that equip and empower my clients to conquer their difficulties. However, it is equally important to me to be a down to earth clinician that is relatable, approachable and warm.
Outside of work I love spending time seeking out great coffee spots and hiking one of the amazing trails Cairns has to offer with my husband and young daughter.
