Clinical Psychologist

D Psych, Registered Clinical Psychologist, MAPS

Coming from a European corner country area where Germany, France and Switzerland meet and Italy is only a few hours drive away, I have always had a natural interest in diverse cultures, languages and people. When I first travelled around Australia in 2007 and 2008, I immediately fell in love with the wide horizons, the natural wonders and especially the open-minded nature of the people. Now that I have moved here, I feel privileged to live in the beautiful environment of Cairns, enjoying the unique lifestyle and the friendliness of the tropical north.

My journey in psychology began after having completed an apprenticeship in Economic Correspondence and realising that I´m much better at what I´m passionate about. I commenced the six years of studying psychology at the University of Heidelberg where I also worked as a research assistant in Social Psychology. After completing my “Diplom-Vorprufung” in Psychology (equivalent to a Bachelor degree), I continued at the University in Bonn, completing my “Diplom-Psychologin” exams (equivalent to a Masters degree). After some years of work experience, I added a four-year registrar program in Clinical Psychology / Psychotherapy (“Psychologische Psychotherapeutin”) at the Institute of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Freiburg.

With now over 18 years experience in the field of psychology, which included working as a psychologist within an allied health team in Townsville, I have developed a special interest in trauma work and stress-related issues, including the treatment of PTSD, dissociative symptoms, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, as well as dealing with severe medical conditions.

As your Clinical Psychologist, I encounter you with openness, kindness, respect and appreciation. I am aware of the effort you make when engaging with a psychologist and I know how essential the trust is that we need to build together. It is important to me that we actively work together as a team, caring for your values and aiming to work towards your personal goals. And I kindly like to challenge you when necessary, as often the challenges make the changes.

Apart from my passion for psychology, I enjoy bushwalking and water-sports with my partner. And I love tea so much that you will probably see me drinking a cuppa all day long. I like to experiment with different cooking styles, which often gives me the chance to discover delicious new tastes and sometimes simply lets me return to my favourite Mediterranean cuisine or a wonderful down-to-earth Aussie barbie at the beach. I love spending as much time as possible with my family and friends, where ever in the world they are.
